Why HBO Max Isn’t Available on Amazon Firestick and What You Can Do Instead

For a long time, you could get HBO on your Amazon Firestick with no issues. The Firestick applications are not always the best and sometimes leave a little something to be desired, but they got the job done. What you might not know is that there is not even a basic app for HBO Max on the Firestick.

You would think a company like HBO would want to make their platforms accessible to everyone, no matter what hardware they are using. The easier you make it to access your content, the more people are likely to use it. It seems pretty straightforward, but for whatever reason, HBO Max is not available on the Firestick.

One workaround is installing HBO Max on a PlayStation 4, but it is not the most convenient option for those who prefer using a Firestick for everyday streaming.

This situation is somewhat reminiscent of how BlackBerry initially limited BlackBerry Messenger to their own devices for a long time. Back then, people really liked BlackBerry Messenger and the company had an opportunity to expand the platform beyond their existing user base. By keeping it exclusive for so long, they opened the door for other apps like WhatsApp, Line, and WeChat to grow and take over the market. By the time BlackBerry made the app accessible to everyone, many users had already moved on to other options.

It is not exactly the same situation, but it does raise the question of why HBO does not make their content more widely accessible. As it stands, HBO Max is not available on the Firestick, so finding an alternative way to watch is necessary. There are also reports that the original HBO app may stop working at some point, though nothing has been confirmed on that front just yet.
