Helping an old lady cross the street

You’ll often here people say, “He’s a nice guy, the kind of person who will help an old lady cross the street.” However, how many of you have actually helped an old lady cross the street? I have. LOL.

A few days ago, after I finished getting some X-rays done, I was exiting the location, and an older lady was walking behind me. I held the door for her, and we began to casually talk a little bit. I noticed that she was hesitating to enter the crosswalk at Queens Boulevard. I asked her if she was OK and if she needed some form of assistance. She said yes, that she was really scared to cross this street, and asked if I could help her. I said, “Of course, I would,” and started across the street with her. She then took my arm, hung on, and was having difficulty walking.

We slowly managed to cross Queens Boulevard with one pause on the island because the light was about to change, and clearly, she couldn’t run. We then continued, and I walked her towards the bus stop. The bus driver was about to leave, but we kind of waved him down, and he waited for us. Once I got there, he said that he would have come to us if he knew we were getting on sooner.

So, the point of this post is to illustrate that there are good people out there who will help you if you simply ask for help. I know we live in a tough world, and it’s usually every person for themselves, but every once in a while, you’ll encounter some good people who are willing to help you out. That old lady encountered two of them on the same day.
