You’ll often hear people say, “He’s a nice guy, the kind of person who will help an old lady cross the street.” But how many of us have actually done that? I have. LOL.
A few days ago, after I finished getting some X-rays done, I was leaving the location when an older lady was walking behind me. I held the door for her, and we started chatting a bit. I noticed she was hesitant to enter the crosswalk at Queens Boulevard. I asked if she was okay and if she needed any help. She said yes, that she was really nervous about crossing, and asked if I could assist her. I said, “Of course,” and we began crossing together. She took my arm for support and was having some difficulty walking.
We slowly made it across Queens Boulevard with a pause on the island because the light was about to change, and she clearly couldn’t rush. After we crossed, I walked her to the bus stop. The bus driver was about to leave, but we waved him down, and he waited for us. Once I got there, he said he would have come to meet us if he’d known we were getting on sooner.
The point of this post is to show that there are good people willing to help if you simply ask. We live in a challenging world, and it often feels like everyone is out for themselves, but every once in a while, you encounter folks who are ready to lend a hand. That lady found two of them on the same day.
