JLab Rewind Headphones Review: Affordable, Lightweight, and Surprisingly Good Sound

02/27/2021, 3:31 pm Angel Rodriguez 0

The Jlab Rewind headphones bring back that classic vibe with Bluetooth convenience. Comfortable, lightweight, and wire-free, they deliver decent sound for workouts and walks. Battery life and controls are basic, but they’ve grown on me and are surprisingly worth checking out if you want simple, no-fuss headphones.

My Wife Witnessed Me Get Beat in a NYC Underground MMA Fight – Real Fight Club Experience

02/26/2021, 2:51 am Angel Rodriguez 0

I got my ass whooped in my first underground MMA fight, right in front of my then-girlfriend. Fighting wasn’t really in my nature—I fought casual while my opponent came to win. Glad I experienced the real fight scene before it was legalized in NYC, win or lose.

Plantronics Backbeat Fit 500 Review: Decent Sound but Not the Best for $100

02/24/2021, 7:31 am Angel Rodriguez 0

I gave Plantronics headphones a try for music, but they didn’t quite hit the mark. The fit is decent and the sound is okay, but not as impressive or secure as some other $100 options. I ended up returning them after comparing with other brands.

Sony WH-XB700 Review: Great Sound but Too Bulky for Gym Use

02/24/2021, 7:05 am Angel Rodriguez 0

These headphones sounded good and were comfortable, but their bulky size and loose fit made them impractical for gym use. They don’t stay secure during quick movements and are difficult to carry without a bag. Ultimately, they didn’t meet my needs, so I returned them.

JBL LIVE 400BT Wireless On-Ear Review: Great Sound but Fit Causes Discomfort

02/24/2021, 2:02 am Angel Rodriguez 0

These headphones deliver great sound and stayed securely on my head during my commute. I enjoyed the music quality, but after about 30 minutes, they started to feel uncomfortably tight. I need something more comfortable for longer wear, so I ended up returning them for now.

Sick Puppy Book Review: Why Carl Hiaasen’s Environmental Satire is a Must-Read

02/23/2021, 1:54 am Angel Rodriguez 0

“Sick Puppy” by Carl Hiaasen is a hilarious, wild ride that follows Twilly as he takes on a reckless litterbug. Packed with crazy twists and memorable characters like Skink, this book had me laughing out loud on the train and still does on a reread. Highly recommend!

Sony WH-CH710N Wireless Headphones Review: Great Sound but Poor Fit and Gaming Lag

02/23/2021, 1:08 am Angel Rodriguez 0

I’ve been hunting for wireless headphones that combine great sound with a secure fit. Tried Sony’s wireless over-ear, loved the audio and easy pairing, but the lag during gaming and the unstable fit made them a no-go. Perfect for music, but not for active use or gaming.

Appliance Pros Group Review: Fast and Reliable Stove Repair Experience

02/18/2021, 7:57 am Angel Rodriguez 0

Our stove oven kept shutting off, and finally stopped working completely. Appliance Pros Group came out quickly during the holidays, diagnosed a faulty power outlet, and fixed it in 20 minutes. Ilya was professional and efficient—I highly recommend their service for any appliance repairs.

Episode 116 – BJJ Safety, Abuse Concerns, and Changing Attitudes in the Jiu Jitsu Community
by@Angelrtalk

Some time ago, I wrote a post saying I wasn’t completely comfortable with my wife training jiu jitsu with men. The reaction from many practitioners was intense. I was called insecure, and some people insisted that abuse simply doesn’t happen in the BJJ community.

Since then, I’ve seen more and more posts and discussions acknowledging that jiu jitsu has had issues with grooming and abuse, and that these problems have existed for years. It’s been interesting to watch that shift. When I first shared my concerns, a lot of higher belts and experienced practitioners dismissed my perspective. Now, many of those same types of voices openly recognize that these problems are real.

That contrast is hard to ignore. I talk about it in more detail in episode 116.

I saw something similar during my time in the military. In environments that are heavily male dominated, with very few women, the risk of misconduct can increase. My concerns were never about insecurity. They were about awareness, caution, and looking out for the people I care about.
