Hot Yoga Progress: Embracing Hard Work and Celebrating Small Wins

I’m not naturally gifted or athletic. With that in mind, it makes sense that I am never the best in any sport. Growing up, I didn’t play organized sports much, just the occasional basketball or football game on the block. It wasn’t until I became an adult that I developed the desire and courage to use my body in a competitive way.

I may not be gifted, but I am definitely hardworking. I’ve often heard it said that you don’t have to be the best to be the hardest working person in the room. I may not be the best, but I bet I’m working as hard or harder than anyone else.

This yoga stuff doesn’t come easily to me, at all. Add in the challenge of 105 degrees, and it becomes even tougher. But despite that, I show up several times a week and put in the effort.

Yesterday, I noticed a big improvement in my happy baby pose. For the first time ever, I was able to grab the outside of my feet instead of the inside. That might not sound like a big deal to most, but just a few weeks ago it felt impossible for me, so this is definite progress.

Overall, my body feels better since I started. I’m still figuring out my practice, but I’m putting in the work. I may never be upside down with my feet in the air, but I will be better than I was yesterday and that’s for sure!

You know that thing you’re scared or embarrassed to try? Go ahead and do it anyway! You’ll never improve without trying.
