My dog gets really scared and starts shaking a lot when I take her to the vet. She used to be okay with it, but after she was spayed, she’s been more anxious. That experience understandably made her nervous about vet visits.
I feel awful bringing her in because she usually figures out we’re going to the vet after just one or two train stops. It breaks my heart to see her trembling and looking at me like, “Why are you doing this to me?”
I wish there was a way to explain to her that it’s for her own good. Honestly, though, I don’t think that would make much difference. I remember when I was a kid and had to get shots, I didn’t think, “It’s okay, this is for my own good.” No, it still wasn’t fun. Heheh.
We bring her in to trim her nails every few weeks, which isn’t great either. We’ve tried doing it ourselves, but she resists and we’re afraid of hurting her. We also have to take her regularly to have her anal glands expressed. We tried doing that ourselves briefly, but it didn’t really work out so we stopped. And of course, there are the regular vet visits for vaccines, illness, and check-ups.
I hate taking her there because I know it scares her, but we don’t really have a choice. If we don’t do these things, she could end up with health problems. So with a heavy heart, I put her through it every few weeks. I try to schedule everything around the same time to reduce how often she has to go. We do the best we can for her. How is your pet with the vet?
