Independence Day film review

So tonight we watched the original Independence Day film with Will Smith. When we’re eating we like to throw something on the TV and generally not something that requires too much attention. So sometimes we’ll throw on an old film that we’ve already seen.

I think I only watched this film once before but it was totally worth a second watch all these years later. I remember watching part two not that long ago and wishing that Will Smith had to come back to that film. However, I presume that he was either not interested or they could no longer afford him.

The story is basically about some aliens who come to earth and they wish to completely annihilate the human race in order to take over the planet. They have advanced technology and are whooping our back sides! It appears as though all this lost until Jeff Goldblum comes up with a clever way to fight back.

The story is filled with heroes, sacrifice and heartbreaking loss while still giving you a feeling of unity and inspiration. It shows the entire world working together against a common enemy. For a little while at least, we put aside our petty differences and come together as one to fight a greater enemy. With the way this world is now, over two decades later, this is a lesson that many out there could use today.

This is a great “old” film. If you haven’t seen it, you really should. If you have seen it, then I think it’s definitely worth another watch. Great movie, great acting, solid plot, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Though to be honest, they probably should have kept this film as a solo project. Sadly, the sequel bombed and they scrapped part 3. That’s a bummer because it seemed promising. Such is life, am I right?
